The Figment of the Week: A lake of ink

As part of the lead-up to our upcoming Issue No. 4, Lotus Eater, which is finally nearing completion, we’ve decided to bring back our classic weekly segments: Figment of the Week!

Each week, we’ll publish a piece of writing submitted through our website and feature the selected author both here and on our Instagram, giving them a spotlight and platform to shine.

So girls, get to submitting and take your shot each week!

Without further ado, we’re excited to introduce the first piece to kick off the return of this beloved segment:

A lake of ink— thick, murky, and dark, amorously still. The lake is a vessel of unsent letters. I know, my amorous subject, that you’re angry, and you want—eagerly—to get out. But your Olympian hands aren’t like the poet’s hands. No stroke will dilute any verse. Your green oars are inked blue. I’d apologize— but my words have self-assertion, the kind that would let us both drown and sink in. You didn’t ask to be a muse, but destiny has an ace card to be played. The ink is my verses. Now row, captain, row!

Thanks and congratulations to the author. See you guys next week!
